Usually when someone hears the words ‘Church of Christ’ the first thing they think of is ‘they think they are the only church going to heaven’. If this is what you thought of, you are not alone. We hope you will search this website and learn just ‘WHO WE ARE’.

Let us introduce ourselves.

  • First, as individuals we are called Christians. In Acts 11:26 the followers of Christ were first called Christians at Antioch. We who follow Christ are still called Christians today.
  • Second, as a collective body we are the church. ‘Church of Christ’ is more of a description than a title. ‘Church’ denotes the saved. Acts 2:47 and Acts 8:1‘Christ’ is who the church belongs to. Matthew 16:18
  • Fourth, God communicates with man through His word, the Bible. The scriptures are complete. There are no need for creeds, traditions, or latter day revelations. 2 Timothy 3:15-17 ; Galatians 1:6-8
  • Fifth, We are not at liberty to add to God’s word, or take away from God’s word. Revelation 22:18 We must abide in the doctrine of Christ. 2 John 9

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU VISIT AT THE ROCKY POINT ROAD CHURCH OF CHRIST

WELCOME- You will be greeted at the door with a warm smile and a welcoming hand shake. The church meets in the auditorium for announcements, prayer, and songs, before going to Bible classes. There are Bible classes for all ages.

Bible questions will receive a Bible answer. The teachings of the Bible are sometimes very simple, and at other times complex. In order to understand the complex topics one must understand the foundation they are based upon. So, if you ask one of those complex questions, please be ready for an in depth study to fully understand what the Bible teaches on the subject.

After class the group returns to the auditorium for worship.

A staffed nursery is not provided for the children. Children remain in the auditorium with their parents. We do this so that the children can learn to worship God from the very beginning. Granted, there will be times when children are noisy, but this is part of the learning process.

Titus 2:3-5 encourages the older women to teach the younger women. It is not uncommon to see an experienced parent helping out the new parent. This is done with lots of love, patience, and a sympathetic smile.

As was emphasized in the previous introduction of this congregation, all that we do must be in harmony with what we read in the Bible. The same applies to our worship. The Bible is full of examples of acceptable and vain worship in both the Old Testament and the New Testament. We will be following the examples of acceptable worship found in the New Testament.

The New Testament church met regularly for several different reasons. Almost every chapter in the book of Acts records something that the church did. The activities of the church were always centered around prayer, praise, preaching, partaking of the Lord’s supper, and learning. The purpose of worship was to strengthen, equip, and encourage. (See Hebrews 10:22-25; Ephesians 4)

Worship was not the only association Christians had with each other, but for this section we will limit our description to the worship.
